DIY Bedroom Tray

Monday, September 14, 2015

Hi readers!

As I've mentioned before, I'm currently in the process of redoing my room. I am a bit of a Pinterest junkie and I decided to take on a few DIY tasks. I've been pinning bedroom trays lately and I felt like my room needed one! I could have saved time and gone out to purchase one.. make my life easier. But what type of Pinterest girl would I be then? Not a very good one!

I wanted to try something outside of the box and go for a chevron chalk board tray. My whole project cost $21 and some change. I bought all my items from Michaels as well. Blogger tip: Make sure you download Michael's app! They give you coupons that you can use on pretty much everything.

Here's how everything got started:

I first spray painted my box white. I used about 2-3 coats to get the color just right and to get all of the wood covered. After I painted the box, I originally was going to use my stencil and paint polka dots around the outside. After about three dots I became unsatisfied with the way they were coming out. I quickly took off the gold paint with a wet paper towel. I googled a few easy patterns and came across the Chevron.

Here's how I accomplished the pattern:

Step one: Get a stencil of some sort and start measuring out your pattern. I used a triangle ruler for help. I placed the stencil along the edge of the box and placed tape above the stencil. I repeated that until I came to the very end of the box. (Seen in right hand picture) You can use scotch tape or painters tape, whichever you have on hand.

Step two: Place the stencil so it looks like a right angle. Now draw a line down the middle of your already taped triangle. This will help place the other pieces of tape so everything is in line with each other. (Seen in left picture)

Once you have placed your tape in the pattern you like, it's time to paint the gold! I used about 4 coats to get the color I wanted. Let each coat set for 45 minutes each before applying a new coat. Wait until the paint is completely dry to peel off the tape. Once you peel off the tape you can fix your mistakes with white paint to cover up some unwanted gold.

After completing your outside pattern, it's time to focus on the inside. I used chalk board paint for the bottom of the tray. To use the chalk board paint you apply two coats. One horizontally and one vertically. This will help eliminate all white spots. Wait one hour between each coat.

Let's take a look at our finished results!

The chalk board paint worked out great. My advice is wetting a towel before taking off chalk. It takes it off much easier verses a dry paper towel.

Poncho For You

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

So it's officially PSL season.. Who has gotten their first taste of the new Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks? They're actually putting real pumpkin in the drink, go figure! I haven't had a chance to snag one yet, considering it's still 100 degrees here in Palm Beach.  Here in Florida, as you may know, we really don't get seasons. It's sunny almost all the time, and the lowest it may get is 60 degrees. From living up North all my life, to the sudden change in weather is something I'm still not use to. I've been down in Florida for almost a year now and it still amazes me how hot it stays.

We don't really start getting a "cold" front until October.. maybe November, but I'm starting to add bits and pieces of fall clothing to my wardrobe. I am currently obsessed with the cape and poncho trend that's going on right now. It's the perfect transitioning piece for summer into fall. While it's still warm during the days, you throw a simple shirt under it just incase you get too hot. Once nighttime comes around, you have this blanket like top to keep you warm. So grab your jeans, booties and a poncho and you're on the list for being in trend for the fall season! Take a look below for some of my favorite ponchos:

First, I'll start with the Sienna Stripe Poncho from the LOFT. I've seen this on several blogs, I cannot get enough! It's currently retailed at $69.50, but if you're a regular shopper at the LOFT you know you can always snag this on sale sooner or later.. Next on my list is the Toggle Poncho from Urban Outfitters.. Currently retailing at $59. I love how it has a little toggle on the front to keep it in place. It also adds a little something extra to the poncho, don't you think? Last on my list is currently selling for $26 on ASOS! It's a great deal and a great color for fall. You can click on any of the pictures and it'll bring you directly to the page. You're welcome!

Here is my flannel poncho from the Loft Outlet I recently purchased. Cannot wait to wear this!
We still have some left in stock! Better hurry though, they're selling out quickly!

This Or That

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Happy Tuesday everyone! It's been a while since I've done a "This or That" post, but I am super excited to share with you what I have found! Recently at the Loft, they have received a ton of new denim. One of them including these ridiculously adorable patched skinny jeans. Ever since I started working at the Loft (two years ago!) I've never shopped anywhere else for my denim. Loft has jeans for all body types. The material they use is not heavy and there is a ton of stretch to them, which is a good thing for those days you're feeling a little bloated! It happens to the best of us.

I did some digging around and found that J.Crew has a similar, if not an identical pair of jeans to the Loft. Take a look for yourself below!

To the left we have the Loft Jeans, currently retailing for $89.50. While on the right, the J.Crew jeans are selling for $298.00.. That is a 70% savings! You're basically getting the Loft jeans for $200 less!

You want to know what's even better? The Loft Outlet store is currently selling similar ones for even less! At the West Palm Beach location, our denim is on promotion for BOGO FREE!* So yes, you do get two pairs of jeans for the price of one! Bananas. Who doesn't love a good sale? I am currently loving our new fall product, it's worth heading over to your local Loft Outlet and taking a look!

Are you loving this patched denim look? If so, what would you be wearing as your top and shoes? Let me know below in the comment section! If you would like to shop the looks here are the links:

*Not all Loft Outlets/Loft Stores have the same promotion as each other. Please check your local store for more details.
